REVIEW: Boujois Volumizer Mascara, 2 step.

This is a claims to be a Volume Boosting Mascara which is what I was looking for as my eye lashes are naturally rather long. It features the same brush but with two different openings letting different amounts of mascara out with each brush, creating two effects. So you can go natural for the day and glam for the night! whoo

The brush in general is big and with bristles:

image

Step one brush lets out less mascara creating a clump-free feathery natural look, see below. Step two brush, on the other-hand, really gives the volume and makes your lashes a little clumpy but in a good way, see below. I love the slightly clumpy effect it gives, I knew it would give this effect before I bought it. But if your someone who likes that defined look, this mascara isn’t for you!

image

There is a significant difference between the two pictures above. There are so many combinations to play around with… You can do is use Step One on the lower lashes and Step Two on the upper lashes. Another way is to first apply step two then comb it out with step one or likewise!

It is not very hard to remove, although I do use an oil cleanser. The Formula is really nice, smooth and moist, not dry at all. Although it can get a bit messy. Overall I really like this mascara and the effect it gives and I think I would re-purchase this as you can create a number of looks with it!

Price : £10.50. Where to buy : Boots, Superdrug, Asos. Rating : 8/10

FAQ Friday!

image

Here is our Frequently Asked Questions Friday! So if you asked us a question and we didn’t do a post on it, your answer will be here :)

image

Q: Good Hair Treatment or Hair mask? -Chrissy, Wales.

FLO: For a more affordable approach, Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioners are amazing! I also like the Luscious Long range. About £3-4.

WILLA: On the Pricier side, I would advise Redken. All there masks are great but I love the Smooth Down Butter treatment for frizzy hair! About £17. I also really like Elvive hair masks, they are about £3-4 too!

When using a hair mask always comb through to make sure the product gets distributed well and leave in for at least 3 minutes. For a deep treatment leave in for 10-20 mins and wrap your hair in a towel, or go in a steam room if your at the gym or spa. And Rinse out thoroughly so there is no mask left in your hair, leaving your hair light not heavy!

Q: Good Foundation? -Anon.

FLO: Bourjouis Healthy Mix Foundation, Bobbi Brown Tinted moisturizer, Elf Mineral powders.

WILLA: Bare Mineral Foundation for everyday (See my review here : http://makeupwrites.tumblr.com/post/2337914181/willa-writes-bare-mineral-matte-foundation) and Estee Lauder Double Wear for a longlasting effect.

Q: Fave Eyelash Curlers? -Iman, London.

FLO: Shu uemura eyelash curlers all the way! Tell us if you want a full review on them! I would defiantly say that if you are going to buy eyelash curlers that you should spend some money on them, like makeup brushes they will last you for ever and they work so much better than the cheap ones!

Willa writes…Have you tried :

  • Bourjouis Volumizer Mascara £10
  • Mac Haute and Naughty Lash £17.50

In Lisa Eldridges latest tutorial (Chocolate Berry Look) she used Mac Haute and Naughty Lash and I absolutely love the effect :

image

image

The Mac Haute and Naughty Lash being slightly pricey at £17.50, the Bourjouis Volumizer Mascara at £10 looks like a great dupe! It has the same two in one mascara effect and I think I will buy it this weekend! If anyone owns these mascaras please tell us below, or message us to give us your view! xxx

How to deal with split ends!

image

Q: How do I deal with my split ends?

A: There is not much you can do for split ends so I am going to talk about how to prevent them as well as deal with them!

Flo writes… The best tip I can give you in regard to split ends is to CUT THEM OFF! I know it sounds harsh and it may be a difficult thing for you to do but it is the only way to get rid of them completely. However if you really can’t stand doing that or if your hair is already short this is what you can do…

  • use a conditioning mask specifically for damaged hair twice a week
  • apply a blow dry cream to your hair before you blow dry and then a heat protect ant for styling
  • you can try this ‘miracle’ overnight treatment that I read about in 17 magazine. It claims to bond frayed ends back together. Its called Nexxus ProMend Split End Binding Leave in Treatment Crème and you can only buy it in America

If you do cut your split ends off the Good for you! But now you need to make sure that you use heat protectants, masks and treatments to prevent them coming back! Why not try Aussies take the heat range, it will give you extra heat protection!

Hope that was helpful and keep asking questions!!

DIY, At Home Manicure.

image

Q: Can you do a post on manicures and getting nice looking nails? -Anon.

A: Why don’t we tell you how to do your very own DIY Manicure at home!

image

Willa writes … These are some steps I do before painting my nails, these will keep your polish lasting longer and your nails will be in a better, healthier condition :

  1. Remove all remaining nail polish from previous manicure.
  2. Soak your nails in a bowl of warm water and add a few drops of lemon juice to get rid of any staining left over from previous nail polish. Do this for about 3 mins.
  3. Directly after, apply a cuticle oil and massage in. Then push back your cuticles with a cuticle pusher while your cuticles are still soft.
  4. Clip or cut nails to desired length, filing when necessary, I prefer to use a nail clipper but a nail scissor works too!
  5. Use a big nail buffer to gently buff over the nail surface to get rid of any bumps and dents
  6. Lastly wipe over your nail surface with a bit of nail polish remover and a Q-tip and apply your desired base coat.

TIP : I always like to cut my nails as short as possible, then they are less likely to chip for me! And dark colors look best on short nails!

Products I use and would advise :

  • Elf Cuticle Pushers
  • Burts Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Oil
  • Sally Hansen Insta-Grip base coat, see my review on it here : http://makeupwrites.tumblr.com/post/1391336315/willa-writes-sally-hansen-insta-grip-base-and

REMEMBER : Never paint polish onto the cuticle, that why its best to soften them and push them down. And wait plently of time inbetween each coat, look at my tip on how to fasten the time up : http://makeupwrites.tumblr.com/post/1544755529/willa-writes-i-hate-it-when-you-dont-know-if

DON’T : Go to square or too circular with your nail shape, try and make it as natural as possible.

Hope this Helped, Ask more Qs. Here: http://makeupwrites.tumblr.com/ask  xxx

Q: Fitness? -Lucy, USA

A: Even though this blog is about Makeup, We thought why not do a bit about Health and Fitness! So here we go Lucy!

image

Willa writes…The first thing you’ve got to ask yourself about getting fit is : Who are you doing it for? If the answer isn’t yourself don’t bother! Don’t do it for friends, family, bf’s/gf’s and so on, you have to be doing it for yourself!

So now you’ve decided you want to get fit but how to do it?

Join a gym…Its fun, easy and sociable! Yes, the actual gym with all the machines may seem like a bit of a bore but doing classes are so much fun! There’s a great atmosphere about them, the instructor totally gets you in the mood and you will come out feeling flushed with happiness! Don’t be shy to go there alone for the first time yourself, everyone has been in that situation before and will be super friendly towards you. Don’t be embarrassed if your not as good as some others, your still new remember? Classes I Love :

  • Yoga (Toning up and getting flexible)
  • Spin (Great Cardio, gives you a real kick!)
  • Circuits (Fun and good strength workout)
  • Aerobics/Aerotone (Dance routine which really works up a sweat)
  • Ab Class (Gives your core a real workout, giving you an overall fab balance)

Not so much of a Gym-Bunny? Grab a friend and go for a jog! Being outside in this fresh cold air will fasten your metabolism and give your face a fresh healthy glow!

Not the out-doorsey type? Download Nike Training App, its like having your very own personal trainer with 60 workouts to choose from, you can put your own playlist on it too! Its free!  http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/nikewomen-training-club/id301521403 Just buy a Yoga mat and you can start training tomorrow!

Get Motivated! Buy Cute workout clothes, I love Sweaty Betty! Their fits and flattering and they have cute styles but a bit pricy so try and wait for the sale! Nike, American Apparel and Tk Maxx may also have some good finds!

Try to work up a sweat a good few times a week, I go to the gym at lease three times a week for classes and I use my Nike Training app for at home! I really want to try Pole dancing and Zumba class!  Apparently both very toning and fun! I actually bought some shorts from Sweaty Betty on the weekend to try and motivate me to go to pole dancing, so I have no excuse not to go! You’ll notice from doing all this exercise you wont feel the need to pig out on junk food anymore as you’ll feel how hard your working for this “Dream Body” and once you start all this you will never be able to stop!

Do you workout? Tell me your weekly “Workout Schedule” below! xx

Quick Tip : “When wearing lipstick or gloss always make sure to use a lip-balm before-hand… Apply a layer of balm after you’ve cleansed your face and wait for it to sink in while your doing your face makeup. When it comes to your lips gently blot the rest off and apply your product!”

This will leave your Lip products lasting longer and give a prettier, smoother, more kissable effect! xx

How to deal with Oily Hair!

image

Q: My hair gets quite oily quickly after I’ve washed it, whats a good shampoo to stop that? (Cheap shampoo)

A: Willa writes… I would advise using a Clarifing Shampoo, my favourite being TRESemme Deep cleansing Shampoo (about £3.60). It helps remove build-up of hair products and impurites. It will leave your hair feeling squeaky clean, but then I would definitely condition afterwards so your hair won’t be left all dry and make sure to rinse all the product out (shampoo and conditioner), no matter how long it takes you!

But how to control oil in-between washes?? First of all don’t use too many styling products as this will just lead to a build up of products making your hair heavy and greasy. The idea is to keep your hair as light and fresh for as many days possible and to help you do this use a dry shampoo, I like Batiste dry shampoo. Or for curly hair TRESemme Waterless Foam Shampoo as with this you can just scrunch and go rather than having to brush out.

An extra tip is to try and not touch your hair, I know it can be hard not to fiddle with your hair, but your hands carry soo much grease and oils!

All of the products mentioned are drugstore and under £5! Hope this helps!! xx

Quick makeup for those early mornings!

Flo writes…

Today I am bloging on how I do my makeup in the morning before school. I HATE getting up early so I like to procrastinate in bed for as long as possible. Therefore I only spend about 5-10 mins on my makeup. But this is why I normally throw on so I look polished and nice!

  • first I put on concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes. I would recommend a liquid-y one because it is faster to apply, I am using the bourjour concealer but one that comes in a roller-ball or pen would be even faster.
  • second I apply mineral powder foundation with a kabuki brush. I pick this because it is the fastest and you do not have to set it. I am using the ELF one at the moment but I think I am going to move on to the bare minerals matte foundation.
  • I will now apply blush. I am again using the ELF mineral blusher in rose, which is a really nice peachy colour and very pigmented. I will apply this with a stippling brush and blend with the kabuki brush.
  • If I have enough time I will use a powder highlighter. My fav is Mac’s rhapsody in two, but it was limited edition and so it not available any more :(. I will apply this on my cheek bones, under my eyebrow, on the inner corners of my eyes and on my cupids bow with my fingers.
  • Brush brows into place with a clear or tinted gel.
  • Curl eyelashes and apply mascara. I got the shu uemura one for x-mas and it really is worth the money. Your eyelashes will be curled all day long!
  • lastly apply a lip colour. I have been using pretty peaches stains and glosses and deep nude lipsticks that compliment my skin. I will go for nude colours because I am going to school but if you are off to work then go for a bright lipstick because that will really brighten your face!

Hope that gave you a few ideas for the early morning rush!

Backstage Beauty ss11 Trend: Perfect Plum eye.

image

Willa writes… This look was seen at Etro Spring 2011 show in Milan! I love a purple eye, but this one is a tad dramatic for everyday, so I got some products together I think would look fab for an everyday look.

  • Rimmel GlamEyes mono eyeshadow in Plum Romance
  • Mac Shadow in Rockets n’ Stars
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Shadow Stick in Delinquent

How to re-create this look,

Eyes: Use your Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Shadow Stick in Delinquent as a base. These are new from Urban Decay, they are chunky, crease-proof shadow pencils! Apply this up to your crease and a bit under the eye and blend. Next apply the shadow Of your choice over, I advise Rimmel GlamEyes mono eyeshadow in Plum Romance or Mac Shadow in Rockets n’ Stars. Pat this over the pencil base and run a little under the eye. The shape of the shadow shouldn’t be angled or flicked, just a rounded shape that follows your natural eye shape. Then put some black eyeliner in your waterline and apply lots of a black glossy mascara to top and bottom lashes.

Lips: Just apply some lipbalm to avoid this look being over-done. If you want to apply a lipstick choose Mac Shy girl Lipstick (swatch in top right corner). Anything sheer with a little gloss will do.

Face: Clear skin goes well with this look, so make sure your skin is looking luminous and fresh to ensure that peachy glow!

How to Successfully cover Dark Circles.

image

Willa writes…

Covering dark circles successfully can brighten up your entire face and will also make any eye makeup look fab and polished…So Heres what I use, and how to do it, enjoy!

  • Mac Pro longwear concealer
  • Clinique Airbrush concealer, I also like No.7 Instant Radiance.
  • (Extra) Mac eye kohl in I get no kick, or any shimmering eye pencil or shadow.

Step One : I apply Mac Pro-long wear concealer under my eye and pat it out. I use my ring finger and pat to blend it! This concealer does not have a very high coverage. But it isn’t cakey, you can apply it in layers, it leaves a very natural effect and is easy to blend. Wait for it to dry and apply another layer is necessary, I only apply one layer though.

Step two : Once dry apply Clinique Airbrush concealer to really brighten up the area and give that “airbrushed” effect. Brush it on using the applicator it comes with and then pat out with your ring finger again, almost pressing the product in. Make sure not to blend too hard and you may end up just wiping it off.

Step three : If wanted, apply some highlighter to the inner corner and brow bone just to finish up this look. Then set it with a yellow toned powder and fluffy eye-shadow brush.

Finished, your dark-circles should be non-existent! More questions? Ask Below!
